Welcome

Skaslien Gjestgiveri - view from gardenGuesthouse from 1952Kirsten Skaslien bought a small farm that was once part of the Grøset estate in the municipality of Grue, Hedmark County. She started small; renting out her rooms to travelling businessmen and other visitors. At the time she was also kept busy running the small farm; there were the pet animals to take care of, the work carried
out in the courtyard brew house and a barn with cattle and pigs to look after. The old Guesthouse from 1952

In 1952, her son Ollvar returned home having given up whale hunting to marry his girlfriend Åse. Together, they joined Kirsten in running and developing the guesthouse.

Host - Mrs Elin og Mrs Ottar SkaslienBy 1983 the third generation of the Skaslien family had returned to Grue from their  espective studies and work to take over the business. Brothers Ottar and Morten
Skaslien were trained chefs who set
about improving the kitchen putting
food at the heart of the family enterprise.

Skaslien Gjestgiveri now offers great home cooked food
with the kitchen  serving breakfast, lunch and dinner
all year round to Grue’s locals, surrounding businesses

Skaslien Gjestgiveri has moved with the times and has, down the years, added more guest and function rooms to the main building as well as a number of log cabins. The most recent additions include guestrooms boasting hotel-standard facilities and large function rooms which are suitable for conferences and banquets for up to 150 delegates/guests equipped with modern audio visual equipment.

The restaurant serves traditional Norwegian cuisine made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients prepared with a culinary expertise firmly rooted in the traditional flavours of the region with an international twist.

Food & Drink

Bilde av Norsk meny 1.3Quality is at the core of what we offer at Skaslien and we take pride in our reputation for serving great food in a friendly atmosphere.

In 2002, we were voted „Best Place to Dine” in Norway and in 2008 we won the competition „Ganefart“ for „Best Roadside Food in Hedmark and Oppland”.

We offer a large and diverse menu based on seasonal produce regardless of whether you order food a la carte, as part of a function or pre-book our out-of-house catering service.

We endeavour to make the best use of the highest quality local produce which forms the basis of the regional recipes incorporated into our ever evolving menu.
We believe that our continual effort to follow this philosophy contributes to the creation of varied and exciting dishes.

We are widely known for our house bakery from our oven warm sponge cake, to the house „Kringle” (buttered-layered wheat pastry) and our always fresh from the oven Skaslien Bread; so tasty you’ll want to take one home with you!

Regardless of whether you choose to book at the Skaslien Gjestgiveri alone or want to bring family and friends, you are always guaranteed a gastronomic treat. However, we’re often busy; so it’s highly recommended that you book your table in advance.
